Volunteering for the HSoMC

Compassionate volunteers are essential to making the Humane Society of Midland County thrive. By contributing your services, whether it is just one hour per week or more, you help us maintain our mission of helping animals. We have a number of opportunities within the shelter and beyond that we need help with. If you have any other skills that you feel you could contribute to help us, such as building maintenance experience, a flair for marketing or excellent event ideas, please reach out to us

Volunteer opportunities:

  • Dog Walking

  • Cat Cage Cleaner and Cat Socializer

  • Housekeeping

  • Transportation Assistant

  • Event Volunteer

The first step to becoming a volunteer is to apply online. From there you will be contacted via email to schedule your Volunteer Orientation.

Please see volunteer age requirements below to ensure your child meets the age restrictions.

Each person volunteering needs to fill out an application regardless of age.

Those volunteering with a group of 3 or more and do not intend to volunteer consistently should email as instructed below.

Group Volunteering

If you have a group that would like to come in, please contact our volunteer coordinator at volunteer@hsomc.org. Group members must be 18 years of age or older, and groups must be made up of 12 people or less at a time due to the limited space within the shelter. We have groups help us with our day-to-day tasks or special projects as needs arise.

Court-Ordered Community Service

We accept court-ordered community service volunteers on a case-by-case basis. These volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.

Volunteer Age Requirements

  • Youth 10-15 years of age may volunteer with a parent or guardian’s permission

  • Youth 16-17 years of age may volunteer independently once a waiver is signed by a parent or guardian

We are unable to accommodate volunteers under 10 years of age. If your young child would like to get involved, they are welcome to come to the shelter and pet cats with a parent anytime we are open. Parents AND children volunteering must submit an application to volunteer (see above). Children also can get involved by raising money or collecting donations for the shelter.
