Jordan's Way Visits the HSoMC

The HSoMC was chosen as one of the lucky recipients of the Jordan’s Way Clear the Shelters 50-state tour. Founder Kris Rotonda reached out to us, asking to bring his nonstop fundraising promotion to our shelter and we immediately said, "Yes"! Through Facebook Live, Kris raises donations by highlighting the shelter and its animals and staff and through fun games and activities.

We were joined by staff members, volunteers, board members and County Sheriff Myron Greene, as well as a Midland Police officer! Throughout the night, many people took whipped cream pies to the face, much to the amusement of everyone! With each fundraising push, resident dogs got to enjoy a whipped cream pie and plenty of attention. One of the most popular games was the lock up. Staff placed themselves in kennels with adoptable dogs, begging their friends and family via Facebook to bail them out with donations for the HSoMC.

A wonderfully fun time was had by everyone and we are so very grateful for the opportunity to join forces with Jordan’s Way. The event raised over $7,000 for our shelter animals!

Dogs in Need Arrive from Arkansas

Just before Valentine’s Day, The Bissell Pet Foundation reached out to us expressing a need for assistance intended for a shelter in Arkansas. The Humane Society of the Delta is known to be one of the most crowded and under-funded shelters in the United States. They do everything they can for the animals in their care but rely on other shelters like us to help them when space gets tight. With only a few dogs in our facility, we agreed, eager to help these worthy southern dogs. Three days before Valentine’s Day we welcomed 18 dogs and puppies as well as a litter of newborn pups.

Within days, nearly all of the transfer dogs were adopted. Among them were a three-legged Coonhound, several heartworm-positive dogs and one puppy with a healing jaw.  We are grateful to those in our community and beyond who adopted these dogs as well as made donations prior to their arrival to assist with their care. Because of your generosity, we can continue to help shelters throughout the United States when in need.

Baby Bunnies in Foster Care

On January 12, a gorgeous Californian mix rabbit named Beatrix was surrendered to the shelter. At only 10 months old, Beatrix was just a baby herself. This sweet girl won over the hearts of everyone she met but something was a little odd about her. Her tummy was just a bit bigger than what we were used to seeing in an adolescent rabbit. Knowing she had lived with other rabbits previously, we had her checked out and found out she was expecting! Beatrix went into foster care and soon after had 7 healthy baby bunnies. Once they reach 8 weeks of age, these little cuties will be available for adoption.
