On December 19th, 2021, the Humane Society of Midland County was recognized by Cathy Bissell of the Bissell Pet Foundation for our work in partnering with them during their most recent Empty the Shelters campaign. We were able to help get adoptions for dogs from under served communities such as Detroit that currently have full shelters. The Bissell Pet Foundation enables more adoptions by providing grants to shelters to lower or eliminate adoption fees enabling more people to bring an animal in need into their family
Cathy stated on her Facebook page…
“When you adopt a shelter pet, you’re saving two lives–the pet that goes home with you and the pet that your adoption created space for in the shelter. Because we believe in collaboration to save lives, BPF provides transport grant funding to organizations that bring in other pets from shelters in need during and following #EmptyTheShelters!
Thanks to more than 110 Empty the Shelters Holiday Hope adoptions, Humane Society of Midland County was able to take in 72 pets from 5 shelters in desperate need of help! Together, we are saving lives!

Thank you to Cathy and the Bissell Pet Foundation for their wonderful work with shelters around the country.
